NOTE: CUBAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION (CNA) dues are now being accepted for 2005. $10 for regular members, and $5 for junior members.

Meridian Street, Tallahassee, FL. 32301-1281 There have been a few articles on Cuban Numismatics and our CNA in recent publications? This is excellent advertising and recognition of our interests and our association.
World Coin News. October issue - Pages 52-56. Article by member George Manz, regarding Cuban hospitality in the Cuban Numismatic community. World Coin News. November issue - Page 6. Letter to editor regarding Cuban embargo, specifically referencing the October article by member George Manz. World Coin News. November issue - Page 51-52. Article by Paul Green regarding Central America’s attitude toward collecting numismatic material. World Coin News. December issue – Page 4. Cuban Group to meet at FUN. Coin World. December 27 issue. Although our CNA does not encompass Cuban Philatelic “Filatelia” issues (stamps), there is a very interesting Cuban website with a current section highlighting this area. Many of our members also collect stamps, so this website could be of interest. www.guije.com Cuba’s Central Bank introduced a new three peso note in October, 2004, bearing the likeness of Che Guevara on the front, and another of him cutting sugar cane on the back, updating an earlier version that was popular with Cuban currency collectors. This information was recently posted on www.cubanet.org On 10-24-04, a “raw”1898 Proof peso was sold on EBAY for $6100 (#3936148244). If it was bought by one of our members, we would like to know what grade would be anticipated if it was certified. Most collectors of Cuban Modern Commemoratives have wondered exactly what the 1984 Hot Air Balloon peso (KM 172), mintage 23, would cost IF they could locate one. The Krause 2005 Standard Catalog of World Coins lists it at $1400 in Uncirculated condition. On December 12, 2005, a 1984 Hot Air Balloon peso was listed on EBAY for $4000 (#3947110351). Arkady Nakhimovsky, CNA member, and ardent collector of many countries, including Cuba, has recently become an advisor to Krause, specializing in Second Republic (post Castro) Commemoratives. His priority will be to update this section in the Krause World Coins Catalog, especially the missing latter dates and the many versions of the reverses, such as numeral, wreath, crest, and matte finishes. |
